With more than 40 years of hydro design experience, Kim specializes in designing hydro developments, performing dam safety reviews and designing dam mitigation projects. He prepares feasibility reports for hydropower projects in the USA and internationally and conducts reconnaissance studies, condition assessments of hydraulic turbines, and turbine ancillary equipment.
Some of his recent assignments with Kleinschmidt include conducting Part 12 safety inspections; new powerhouse designs; tainter gate repair designs; spillway replacement and dam rehabilitation design; rock anchor designs; emergency canal repairs; due diligence reviews, and conceptual layout for new hydropower facilities.
Kim is a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)-approved independent consultant for Part 12 dam safety inspections and has conducted more than 100 Part 12 inspections involving timber crib, timber buttress, concrete gravity, concrete buttress, arch, Ambursen, and labyrinth dams. He is currently serving on the board of the Midwest Hydro Users Group and is a past chair of the Dam Safety Committee. Kim graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
