Lucas is a Senior Engineer who has been working at Kleinschmidt for 13+ years. Lucas specializes in the design and evaluation of fish passage projects. He performs feasibility studies, site inspections, fishway evaluations, conceptual design, final design, costing, agency consultation, construction support, and fishway commissioning. Lucas’s engineering experience includes the design of steel, concrete, wood, and aluminum structures primarily relating to fish passage and protection. Some of his most recent projects include Fish Passage Feasibility Analysis and Preliminary Design for 10 Dams; Lombard Dam Decommissioning and Stream Restoration; Buzzard Roost Auxiliary Spillway Replacement Project; Eel Ladder Design; Upstream Shad Passage.
His experience involved steep-pass fishways, Denil ladder fishways, pool and weir fishways, vertical slot fishways, fish elevators, natural channel fishways, eel ladders, as well as downstream passage and protection facilities. He also performs engineering design and inspection for a variety of other hydropower structures including dams, powerhouses, intake structures, trash-racks, gates, retaining walls, flashboards, and inflatable rubber dams.
Lucas has his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Maine, Vermont, and Connecticut. He is an active member of the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) and has served as their Maine Section President, the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and the Structural Engineering Association of Maine (SEAM).
