From helicopter inspections in Newfoundland, Canada to irrigation reservoir inspections located between cinder cones on the Island of Hawaii, and everywhere in between, Kleinschmidt has provided work experiences I will never forget.”  


Nick is a Hydrology & Hydraulics Section Manager and has been with Kleinschmidt for 8+ years. Nick specializes in dam safety/Part 12D inspections, as well as creating or updating emergency action plans, dam safety surveillance monitoring plans and reports, standard technical information documents, and other dam safety compliance items. He has completed dam breach analyses, created dam inundation maps, and led functional and tabletop exercises. He has completed Part 12D inspections, Potential Failure Modes Analyses, and stability analyses of concrete gravity, timber crib, Ambursen, rockfill dams, powerhouses, and steel penstocks.

Nick designs reinforced concrete spillways, abutments, slabs, retaining walls, post-tensioned rock anchors, steel and concrete reinforced penstocks, and Tainter gate skin plates. He is able to complete inspections of structures such as Tainter gates and penstocks that require rope access techniques as a certified Level I SPRAT Technician. His design experience involves new structures made of concrete, as well as renovations and repairs to existing structures. His recent highlighted projects include Evaluation of Five Upland Dredge Sites for Stability and Beneficial Reuse; Revised Owners Dam Safety Program; Dam Safety and Compliance; Newfound Culvert Replacement; Phase I Dam Safety Inspections; Spillway Stability and Rock Anchoring; Stability Analyses.

Nick has his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono with a minor in Business.
