Nick Townsend
Project Engineer
“I find it rewarding to overcome the diverse challenges that the hydroelectric industry offers. From the design and construction of new infrastructure to the maintenance and rehabilitation of older infrastructure, there is always something new to learn.”
Nick’s coursework concentrated on structural design and analysis, such as concrete and steel structure design, finite element analysis, and building systems. He also really enjoyed coastal engineering and hydrology. As a part of the Civil Engineering program, Nick completed five, four-month work-terms which ranged from working in Alberta’s oil and gas industry, to working for Nova Scotia Environment where he aided in the research of the impact of methylmercury on freshwater species throughout Nova Scotia. His final work term was spent in Toronto, ON working as a project coordinator for a General Contractor which was preparing a construction site for a new sewage pumping station.
Most recently, he was employed as a field engineer by the general civil works contractor, BBE Hydro Constructors LP, at the Keeyask Hydroelectric Generating Station Project located in Northern Manitoba. Nick believes this was a rewarding experience to have been a part of the team building the Keeyask Generating station that will provide a renewable source of energy for many years to come.
Nick graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in May of 2019 with a B.Eng in Civil Engineering.
