Bug Report for HEC-RAS 5.0.6
Written by Chris Goodell | January 16, 2019
RAS Users: Please give this “Known Issues” report a read if you’re using Version 5.0.6. If you’ve been doing a lot of 2D modeling, it’s likely you have been affected by some of these.
This link includes a document of “Known Issues” found in version 5.0.6 of HEC-RAS to date. The document outlines all of the Issues (bugs) we have found so far.
Please look closely at this document, as there as a few issues that are potential computational problems. Specifically issues 1, 2, 5, and 7. Please review these issues closely. If you have any of these situations use the suggested work around, or solution to get past the issue. Everyone should look at issue 1 and 2, as they are possible in many models.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Keep letting us know if you find other problems with the software.

on January 21, 2019Are these bugs in 5.0.6 only, or would they affect 5.0.5 models as well?

on January 22, 2019I think most are in both, but #7 especially is a bug in 5.0.6 but not 5.0.5. I would try in both if you're not sure.

on January 22, 2019A possible work around for the uniform lateral inflow is to determine what percentage of the reach is between bounding XS of structures and use that to determin a multiplier to apply to the hydrograph. You should probably have that noted in obvious locations in the model so the next user knows to remove those when model is ran in a version that has the bug fix.

on January 23, 2019I'm cautiously optimistic for a 5.0.7 bug fix version since many of these have the "This issue was fixed for the next HEC-RAS release" disclaimer.
One new feature in 5.0.6 that a coworker showed me was the "Clip Weir Profile to 2D Cells" button for a 2D connection in order to ensure that your weir profile is always higher than the adjacent cells' minimum elevations. That'll save a lot of time and tedious effort.

on January 23, 2019I am glad they finally added the Clip Weir Profile to 2D Cells. It always drove me crazy having to do fix that.

on February 27, 2019It seems there has been another bug when copy the project and open it in another PC, all defined levees, ineffective flow areas and block obstructions are gone, and disappeared in XS Editor. Although they are still stored in Table in Geometric Editor, RAS simply ignores all these settings in its calculations
