On July 16, 2020, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR, Docket No. RM20-9-000) proposing amendments to the regulations governing the safety of hydropower projects licensed by FERC under the Federal Power Act (18 Code of Federal Regulation [CFR] Part 12). The Regulations are known as the Engineering Guidelines for the Evaluation of Hydropower Projects (Guidelines). These Regulations are intended to promote the safe operation, effective maintenance, and efficient repair of FERC licensed hydropower projects and project works to ensure the protection of life, health, and property in surrounding communities.
